Great Eastern Cutlery. Since 2006, Great Eastern Cutlery has been producing high quality traditional cutlery with classic styling. Using manufacturing methods from the past, GEC continually designs and produces new patterns in limited runs, in a variety of quality handle materials.
Great Eastern Cutlery produces three distinct lines of knives: The Tidioute brand is the basic pattern with satin finish 1095 carbon steel blades and smooth bolsters; it is the “no frills” line.
The Northfield brand is produced in the same patterns and is 1095 carbon steel, but has all the “bells and whistles” including swedged & polished blades, long pull nail nicks, lined and pinched bolsters, and is available in premium handle materials including stag. 1095 carbon steel is the same steel traditionally used by cutlers for decades. It is precision ground and tempered to hold an edge, but still be easy to re-sharpen.
The Great Eastern brand is the stainless steel line where the blades are ground from 440C stainless steel. Don’t confuse 440C with the cheaper and softer 440A that other companies tend to use, as 440C is a premium stainless! It has great edge holding ability and temper on a par with 1095, but less prone to staining and corrosion.
The skilled craftsmen at GEC perform over 200 hand operations to produce each knife. The end product is a unique heirloom quality piece you will be proud to own or gift.
Hess Knifeworks was established in 2005, and after many years of working for other knife companies, Don and Andy Hess began making their own brand of fixed blade field knives. The blades are of 1095 High Carbon cutlery steel, and each knife is assembled by hand in their small Gladstone, Michigan shop.
Hess Knifeworks’ goal is to make high quality bench made custom knives at an affordable price.“We are a small, family run business that prides itself in putting quality and affordability ahead of mass production.”
Hess knives are exactly like the beautiful and functional hunting knives from days gone by. Each knife comes with a quality US made leather sheath. You can be proud of your Hess each time you use it, and it will last a couple lifetimes when properly cared for!
